Update: Nov 2005 - April 2007

Wow, a lot has happened since I published and released my book Death to Diabetes (ISBN 0977360741) at the end of 2005:

November - December 2005:
  • I was invited to a book signing by a local wellness group and a bookstore.

  • I was surprised at the number of people who found my website and actually bought my book! And, I was surprised at the number of emails I received from people in the U.S., Canada, Hawaii, Pueto Rico, England, Germany, Japan, etc.

  • I ran out of books and had to call the publisher to re-order more books!

  • My mother and my daughter (Cynthia@deathtodiabetes.com) were so happy for me. They were very proud of me, but they were instrumental in my writing the book -- I couldn't have done it without them. In fact, Cynthia helped me structure the chapters and the outline of the book!
January 2006:
  • Amazon.com picked up my book from my publisher, BookSurge (which is now a subsidiary of Amazon.com), so now Version 1.0 of my book is available at Amazon.com

  • I have received hundreds of positive comments and feedback about my book, some of them are listed on Amazon.com. Thank you!

  • Other emails and comments I've received about the book and my wellness program are stored on my website, http://www.deathtodiabetes.com/.
January - June 2006:
  • The Democrat & Chronicle released a 2-page newspaper article about my bout with diabetes. Wow -- I received hundreds of phone calls just from that one article! The power of the media is amazing!

  • Several bookstores, health food stores set up book signings, e.g. Mood Makers, Lori's Natural Foods.

  • Churches and other community groups invited me to their health fairs; and, some asked to conduct more in-depth lectures about diabetes and how to defeat this disease.
July - December 2006:
  • That led me to design a diabetes training workshop that could be tailored for 2 hours, 4 hours, or 1 day. I never realized how important my background in designing technical training courses for Xerox Corp. would be so beneficial in designing this diabetes training program!

  • Similarly, I didn't realize how my background in diagnostics engineering, failure modes & effects analysis (FMEA), and biochemistry would be so crucial to beating my diabetes.

  • And, I didn't realize my background in publishing, documentation, and developing reports would be so important to being able to design and develop a 400-page book.
  • My mother believes that God prepared me for this moment -- to help other diabetics -- by having me spend 30 years in various engineering fields in order to obtain the necessary skills to write, speak, and develop a training program.
  • Clinics and various wellness groups invited me to speak about the diabetes epidemic and my experience with diabetes.

  • Various companies hired me to provide diabetes workshop training to their employees.

  • I began developing a DVD, based upon my workshops and the book because some people don't have time to read a 400-page book, and others like the PowerPoint slides I present during my workshops.

  • I updated my book to Version 2.0 to include information requested from my readers and some updated research.

  • I have been blessed to have met some good people on my journey, e.g. Rich Selby, Alfreda Peters, and so many others, including Sue Fetzner, who has overcome some signifcant health issues on her own and started her own wellness service company (Parwel).

  • I was invited to a diabetes health fair by a medical clinic that specializes in treating Type 2 diabetics.

  • I started development of a 1-disc, 2-disc DVD and 3-disc CD -- especially for people who don't like to read or don't have the time. I was able to find some state-of-the-art development tools to help me transform my PowerPoint presentations to DVD. Technology can be a beautiful thing -- when used properly.

  • Unfortunately, the last 2-3 months of 2006 presented some major challenges that I will have to overcome.

March - April 2007:
  • I provided my 1-disc diabetes DVD (ISBN 0977360733) to CustomFlix to sell to the public.

  • Amazon.com and CustomFlix released my diabetes DVD.
